Diablo 3 introduction
Diablo 3 is an action RPG developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment as the third installment of the Diablo franchise. It was released for Microsoft Windows and OS X in May 2012, it was later introduced in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013.
In August 2014 the game was also introduced for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, followed also for the Nintendo Switch in November 2018.
Set 20 years after the events of Diablo II, players must choose to play as one of seven character classes: Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, Witch Doctor, or Wizard.
Diablo 3 can be defined as a video game with various introductory elements: first of all it has a gameplay based on Action-RPG mechanics, an isometric view, a faster and more intriguing narration, it also has a cooperative multiplayer mode.

Once the player chooses his ideal character, the story begins that induces the player to finish the activities on the path to get experience points, weapons and equipment, to better face their challenges.
Blizzard has managed to package a product capable of responding to everyone’s needs, on the one hand it can be fully playable for a “less hardcore” audience, as on the other hand it is completely enjoyable for true fans of the genre.
All this is possible through the game campaign which is structured in five acts and the Adventure mode which is the main mode of the game. The Eternal Collection includes everything that’s come to Diablo III so far, including the base game, its Reaper of Souls expansion, and Rise of the Necromancer expansion.
The Switch version also adds some fun cosmetics, such as a cucco pet and Ganondorf-themed cosmetics set, and a way to summon powerful foes with Amiibos. Beyond these platform-specific additions, this is just the most recent version of Diablo III, but on the Switch.
Gameplay
Each class therefore has unique characteristics for a rather different approach to the different game tactics. After countless hours, however, the mechanics will not change. However, the use of skills at the right time gives a lot of satisfaction, since these are well differentiated especially visually.
The skill-system is therefore the peculiarity of this Diablo 3, the skills are divided into six categories plus a seventh dedicated exclusively to passive skills.
As we progress in the game we will gradually unlock each skill automatically and we will have to make well-thought-out choices. The real novelty, however, concerns the Rune system, the Rune system establishes the excellence of the Diablo 3 gameplay.
These are some sub-skills related to each main ability to be selected further to increase certain particular aspects of the spell or hit in question. Only one Rune can be selected for each skill, and there are five for each.
With a quick calculation it comes to an average of about 100 unique abilities per character, for an even greater number of combinations on the six slots. In addition, the equipment system is the most extensive ever seen in an RPG.
It is interesting to note that each class has specific objects to wear, moreover the same object from the ground changes its appearance depending on which class takes it.
Final report
So here is that the real reason why this new edition of Diablo 3 has excited us so much lies above all in the incredible amount of content added to the original version of the console game.
The news are so many and affect, sometimes even in a profound way, on the game structure. New enemies, new bosses and a new villain: Malthael, fascinating and interesting to fight.
Perhaps one of the best Diablo (if not the best!) I’ve ever played. A very interesting challenge thanks to the many contents, scalable difficulty levels. The hunt for more or less big bonuses, the Story mode, the Adventure mode, the Rifts and the Seasons do the rest.
Technically, despite some compromises, Blizzard did a very good job. The Switch version doesn’t have much to envy to other editions. The gameplay is not particularly affected by giving a good level of action. Diablo III is definitely a title to keep an eye on: it gives everything immediately and is still a title suitable for lovers of hack and slash.
Final Score
- Very fun and balanced gameplay.
- Interesting classes and to try them all.
- Quantity and variety of contents make it extremely replayable and never monotonous and repetitive.
- Perhaps too hasty story, could add something more to the plot.
- Need some further balancing for classes and objects.
